Champlain College Saint-Lambert will host the 2022 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women’s Soccer National Championship.

The Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) institution will host the event Nov. 9-12, 2022, in Saint-Lambert, QC.

Vince Amato, Athletic Director at Champlain Saint-Lambert, will be the Tournament Chair.

“We are looking forward to hosting the best student-athletes from across the country and putting on a great event that will provide them with a memorable experience – on and off the field,” said Amato. “We look forward to hosting our first CCAA Women’s Soccer National Championship.”

CCAA Championship matches will take place on Seaway Park 3, a field located directly next to the college. The artificial turf field, constructed in 2012, is FIFA certified.

The eight-team tournament will feature conference champions from the Pacific Western Athletic Association (PACWEST), Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC), Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC), Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA), RSEQ and Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA). The Cavaliers, who automatically qualify as hosts, and a wildcard team from OCAA, will round out the field.

The Cavaliers have built their Women’s Soccer program into one of the top college programs in Quebec. They’ve also had success at recent CCAA Championships, taking home bronze in 2019, gold in 2018 and silver in 2017.

“Saint-Lambert has a long history of hosting superior events and visiting student-athletes, coaches and spectators will be in for an amazing and exciting CCAA Championship,” said Marlene Ford, CCAA Women’s Soccer Convenor. “The Cavaliers Women’s Soccer program has been very successful in recent seasons, and they will now have the opportunity to showcase their talents on their home field in front of friends, family, and the community.”

The Cavaliers last hosted a CCAA Championship in 2015 (Men’s Soccer). Prior to that, they hosted CCAA Men’s Basketball (2008), CCAA Cross-Country Running (2012) and CCAA Women’s Basketball (2014).

“While each event has been different, one common thread is the great involvement and cooperation that we’ve had with the students, staff and faculty when hosting,” said Amato, who also serves as CCAA President. “These opportunities have been amazing as they give our students the chance to experience a championship and allow them to put into practice theories that they’ve learned in the classroom.”
