The following post is from Canada West October 20, 2022: https://canadawest.org/news/2022/10/20/general-wsoc-stage-set-for-playoff-showdown.aspx.

The Road to the Canada West Women’s Soccer Final Four begins Saturday with a pair of play-in matches that will finalize the field for next weekend’s quarterfinal round.

Manitoba hosts Regina while Victoria visits Thompson Rivers, with both matches broadcast live on Canada West TV. The winners advance to join Alberta, Calgary, Mount Royal, Saskatchewan, Trinity Western, and UBC, who automatically clinched berths by virtue of finishing within the top 3 of their respective division’s standings.

Saturday’s matches are just the start of what promises to be an exciting postseason on pitches across the conference. Here’s a look at the 10 teams that have championship aspirations.

UBC (13-1-0, 1st in Pacific Division)

    • Of Note: The T-Birds are the all-time Canada West women’s soccer leader with 15 championships, with their most recent conference title coming in 2016.

Calgary (9-3-2, 3rd in Pacific Division)

    • One to Watch: Third-year forward Rachel Barlow led Canada West during the regular season for both total assists, 11, and assist per game, 0.786.

Thompson Rivers (6-6-2, 4th in Pacific Division)

    • Of Note: The Wolfpack are undefeated in their last five matches at Hillside Stadium, going 3-0-2, and haven’t lost at home since a 1-0 loss to UNBC on Sept. 4.
    • One to Watch: Third-year forward Emily Clark accounted for half of TRU’s game-winning goals during the regular season, scoring three of them to tie for fourth in Canada West.
