Pacific FC has named its next goalkeeper coach to succeed Pedro Guerreiro in the role.

The Vancouver Isle-based club has looked local for the post, hiring Victoria native Trevor Stiles to the coaching role.

The 42-year-old is the founder of Victoria’s own Keeper Culture academy and the CEO of sporting equipment supplier Aviata Sports, with Stiles’ own playing career having seem him feature for the Canadian Para Soccer national team following a concussion injury.

“I am thrilled to join Pacific and to begin work with two exciting keepers like Emil and Sean,” said Trevor himself. “I look forward to pulling from my playing experience as a goalkeeper and a member of Canada’s Para Men’s National Team, as well as from my post-playing experience at my academy, to help these keepers continue to develop between the posts for Pacific.”

While born in Los Angeles, Stiles moved to Victoria as a young teenager and had played for the program which evolved into the Vancouver Island Wave Program, representing the province from 13-17 years old.

Wining a U SPORTS national title with the University of Victoria Vikes in 2004, he turned professional and featured for the likes of the LA Galaxy reserves, Miami FC, Ventura County Fusion, and even the A-League’s Sydney FC.

A return home saw him play for the Victoria Highlanders in 2010, but a serious concussion injury against the Portland Timbers U-23 team curtailed his professional career and saw him transition to a sanctioned para athlete, logging 1,681 of time with the Canadian Para Soccer Men’s natonal team.

He also become a co-owner of the Highlanders themselves back in 2018.

“Trevor comes to us with great passion for nurturing local talent,” said PFC head coach James Merriman. “He has built a great network in North America and is well respected within the goalkeeper development industry.”
