MCAC Forced to Cancel Eight-Game Season, Four-Game still a Possibility

    Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference

The Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference has decided to cancel the full eight-game soccer schedule for the upcoming 2020 season.

After initially approving a schedule, the MCAC has been forced to switch gears as the province is experience mini COVID outbreaks. Instead they are hoping to pull off a four-game schedule starting in October.

“If Manitoba Public Health response levels are back to yellow (caution) in all health regions where MCAC schools are located, and the MSA’s Return to Play Phase is back up to Phase three in all of those health regions, then a 50 per cent schedule will begin on October 3, 2020,” said Scott Masterson, MCAC president. “If, however, those conditions are not in place, then the reduced schedule will not be approved and the full MCAC soccer season will be officially cancelled.”

If approved, the mini season will kick off with a matchup between Brandon University Bobcats taking on the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers. The women’s game would kick off at noon followed by the reigning champion Bobcats’ men’s team at 2:15.

A decision on the four-game season will be made by Monday, September 28. If the public and safety requirements are not met, the 2020 season will be cancelled.
