The Brock men’s soccer team has a new skipper at the helm.

Brock Sports announced Aleks Balta as its new head coach of the Badgers men’s soccer program on Tuesday, April 5.

“Aleks is a proven leader on and off the pitch who will elevate our men’s soccer team to new heights while ensuring our student-athletes continue to pursue academic excellence,” said Melissa Krist, Director, Brock Sports. “We are building programs at Brock. Aleks understands the student-athlete experience and the impact it has on the development of their own personal growth in becoming our community’s future leaders.”

A Brock alumnus, Balta (BAcc ’09, BEd ’12) was the Technical Director at the Hamilton United Elite SC and Mount Hamilton Youth SC. He served as the assistant coach of McMaster University’s men’s soccer team and guided the North Mississauga Soccer Club to its first playoff appearance in Ontario League 1 in program history.

“I’m excited about working with the staff and team to take the program to another level. Brock men’s soccer has had great success in the past, so we will strive to get there again,” Balta said. “I love Brock. I had an amazing experience attending Brock as a student, so when the opportunity arose to lead the men’s soccer team, I knew I had to do it.”

Balta currently serves as the Technical Director of FC Tesla Academy in Hamilton where he’s developed a new academy curriculum to garner interest from players across the Greater Toronto Area. The program focuses on high-performance players, which he is looking forward to carrying on with the Badgers.

“I believe we can become OUA leaders and are an institution at the top of the list for student-athletes, both in the classroom and on the field,” Balta said. “We will provide a real professional experience while focusing on commitment, character and work ethic. I am someone who focuses on the process versus the result in developing teams to maximize their performance.”

Balta is looking forward to student-athlete development to create an environment of equity, diversity and inclusion as the team looks to maximize its performance on the pitch and in the classroom.

“We will be a well-organized team that plays an attractive and dynamic style of play and can adjust to their opponents. We expect to consistently make the playoffs while contending for nationals,” added Balta. “But more importantly our student-athletes will walk away with lifetime memories.”
